“Don’t underestimate the value of a house or patio. It’s not just about planks or paving. This is the summer living room, where we have breakfast, dinner, rest, entertain guests and have dinner. Nowadays, the terrace is even divided into zones: dining, lounge, fireplace, etc. Patio furniture is one of the most important pieces of furniture for creating cosiness and harmony. I suggest choosing them according to their function and the style of the environment or the house, both interior and exterior, as they are usually related,” says interior designer Renata Narbutė.
Scandinavian styling
Outdoor furniture should not stand out from its surroundings. They must be comfortable and durable. According to the designer, the style of outdoor furniture is eclectic, as it can be easily adapted to both classic and modern home environments. Another group of furniture is the distinctly different styles of classic and modern furniture.
Scandinavian outdoor furniture is not very ornate, colourful or fancy, but it is very comfortable and durable. They are ideally suited for use, subtle and aesthetic, and designed with quality and comfort in mind.
“The main stylistic advantage of Scandinavian furniture is its naturalness. Stylistics dictated by nature. The Scandinavian summer is short, just like ours, so you need to spend it in a fun, comfortable way”, she stressed.
She said that Scandinavian outdoor furniture has remained almost unchanged over the decades, although modern, sharper shapes have emerged. According to the designer, Scandinavians love natural colours – wood, sand, earth, metal. Higher-end Scandinavian outdoor furniture is very different from cheap plastic furniture, which seems to try to compensate for its transience with bright colours.
Quality and durability
In recent years, furniture materials and production technology have changed dramatically, with remarkable advances in weather resistance, strength and durability. “In the past, many people avoided buying outdoor furniture because they needed to maintain it and have somewhere to store it during the winter. Solid wood furniture is heavy and cannot be lifted out of place. Outdoor furniture made of modern materials no longer needs to be brought inside for the winter: it just needs to be covered and can survive the winter without damage. Outdoor furniture is even designed for use in salt-laden humid environments,” explains R.Narbutė.
Looks like natural materials
Modern synthetic outdoor furniture is made from aluminium – a light, strong and rust-resistant metal, glass fabric or stainless steel. Aluminium frames are strong, rust-proof, durable and lightweight.
They are coated with synthetic wicker or other weatherproof coatings. Synthetic wicker, which imitates natural material, seems to have a roughness, a sun-dried wicker effect, even buds. Such outdoor furniture has a natural look and the advantage that it is not afraid of humidity, sun, heat and cold.
Most people prefer outdoor furniture that uses homogeneous solid composite, toughened glass, aluminium or glass panels covered with natural pebbles, natural teak wood that does not absorb water. With proper care, such furniture is free from coffee, wine, tea or grease stains.
